What Inspired You to Become a Chiropractic Neurologist?
“I grew up in Denmark and spent my afternoons exploring the nearby hills and forest with my neighbor’s dog. One day, when I was 11 years old, we were out for a walk in the snowy hills when a hare appeared close by. The dog suddenly took up the chase. I was determined to not let him get away, and since we were close to the same size, that meant being dragged for a while after falling down. Well, he did not get away, but my back started hurting after that.
The back pain persisted, so my dad took me to a chiropractor for the first time. In just a few visits my back pain was gone. I was so impressed—the whole natural approach to solving my issue made so much sense to me! I told my parents then that I would become a chiropractor. I never doubted that decision for a second after that.
At the time there was no chiropractic education in Denmark, so after finishing my prerequisites, I moved to Sunnyvale to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic- West. I graduated in 1991 and started practicing in Los Gatos. I was always interested in learning new techniques and approaches, and since most of the continuing education took place in California, it made sense to stay here for a while. Almost 30 years later, I have a family here and I am still working in Los Gatos, and still spending much of my free time studying new concepts in chiropractic and neurology.
I became interested in Chiropractic Neurology after first studying Childhood developmental disorders with the Carrick institute. I went on to become board certified in Chiropractic neurology (Diplomate of the American Chiropractic neurology Board) in 2014. I am continually learning more neurology and have spent more than 1000 hours studying movement disorders , TBI traumatic brain injury/ concussion, vestibular disorders and more.
There is so much we can do to heal our bodies and keep our brain and body functioning optimally. Accomplishing this through subtle exercises and therapies continually fascinates me!
When I’m not working or studying, I love to grow food, cook and take care of my family and pets—a cat and dog.
